Summary

An increasing number of commercial partners in agricultural supply chains require data from producers and supply chain partners in order to advance their voluntary sustainability commitments and to fulfil their regulatory due diligence and reporting obligations.

To facilitate data sharing between trading partners, Fairtrade is developing a secure digital platform. Fairtrade certified organisations – traders as well as producers – will be able to request access to their supply chain partners’ data, as well as grant, decline or revoke access to their own data.

In addition to enabling individual traders and producers to decide about sharing their data through mutual consent, Fairtrade wants to consult on a frequent request from commercial partners and producers to make available specific data about Fairtrade certified organisations and products – such as Producer Origin, Final Fairtrade Buyer, Fairtrade Premium Attribution, and Fairtrade Certification Performance – to all organisations within the same Fairtrade supply chain by default.

After proper consultation, the outcome of consultation will be presented to the Fairtrade International Executive Management Team, and if adopted, the proposed rules for data sharing will become part of Fairtrade International's data use policies. The acceptance of these data use policies will become mandatory for all participants in the Fairtrade certification scheme.

About the consultation

All information we receive from respondents from this consultation will be treated with care and kept confidential. Results of this consultation will only be publicly communicated in aggregated form. All your feedback will be analysed by Fairtrade Digital Data Governance, and this analysis will be shared with the Fairtrade International Executive Management Team to decide whether to adopt the proposal.
